Create and edit products

To create a normal product log into your Odyssey back office. In the main menu navigate to the products > products and you are presented with the products list screen.

To create a new product click create in the top left corner. A create product popup window appears. (Use the import & export button to bulk import product data)

Complete the product description and product code and click create. Note Odyssey will automatically generate the next open product code, but can be customized.

After creating the product you are presented with the edit product screen.

General product info

Description – The product description displayed on the point of sale and customer invoice.

Product code – Unique code to identify the product.

Barcode – When selling products with barcodes on you can enter the barcode here to use a scanner in the POS.

Picture – Add a picture of the product to be displayed in the POS.

Color – Assign a color to the product to be displayed in the POS.

Departments

Major department – Select the department that this product is assigned to.

Sub-department 1 – Select the sub 1 department to link the product to.

Sub-department 2 – Select the sub 2 department to link the product to.

Pricing

Cost price – The cost price of your product before VAT.

Purchase VAT – The VAT percentage paid when ordering products.

Average cost – The average cost can not be edited. Odyssey automatically calculated the average cost for a product based on order history.

Selling VAT – The VAT percentage paid when selling a product. (Read more on VAT types here)

Selling price – You can create multiple price types in Odyssey. (Read more on price types here)

Markup – Odyssey calculates the markup of the product based on your cost and selling price. You can also enter the Markup and Odyssey will calculate a new selling price.

Gross profit – Odyssey calculates the gross profit of the product based on your cost and selling price. You can also enter the gross profit and Odyssey will calculate a new selling price.

Selling price excl – The selling price of a product before VAT.

Selling price incl – The selling price of a product with VAT.

Supplier

Link a supplier to a product to know where you order the product from.

Inventory

Minimum product level – Enter the minimum stock on hand value for a product. Note Odyssey will not prompt a popup when stock goes below minimum, but a report can be generated to see all products below minimum stock levels.

Maximum product level – Enter the maximum stock on hand value for a product. Note Odyssey will not prompt a popup when stock goes above maximum, but a report can be generated to see all products above maximum stock levels.

In stock – the stock on hand level of your product.

Adjust – Add or deduct stock on hand for product.

Product type

Normal product – A normal product when sold the sold quantity deducts from your stock on hand.

Returnable product – A returnable product when sold the sold quantity adds from your stock on hand.

Recipe product – A product with ingredients linked to it. When selling this product the ingredients will deduct from the stock on hand.

Refer product – Refer one product to another for example a single to a six-pack to n case.

Weight and size

Pack weight – Weight of the product.

Weight description – Weight description of the product.

Pack size – Pack size of a product for example a box of chocolates (the number of chocolates in the box when ordered)

Pack description – Description of the pack size.

Product instructions

Product instructions are used to prompt a specific number of instructions after selecting an item in the point of sale. For example, if you select a steak, the instruction would be Rare, Medium & Well done. After selecting one of the options you can have another set of instructions for example Mushroom sauce, Pepper sauce & No sauce.

E-store properties

Setup e-store images and long descriptions.

Visible in e-store – Choose to make this item visible on your e-store

Print orders

If you have a restuarant or take away store and have a kitchen or order printer, you can make the item print to a specific printer. For example all food items must print to the kitchen and drinks must print in the bar.

Properties

Visible in point of sale – Make product visible on point of sale.

Change Item Description – When selecting this product in the point of sale, you will be prompted to enter a description.

Ask Price during Sale (SQ) – When selecting this product in the point of sale, you will be prompted to enter a selling price.

Allow Decimal Fractions – Allow this product to be sold with decimal fractions quantity. For example 1.45.

Scale Item – When selecting this item in the point of sale, you will be prompted a screen where the product must be weighed before selling. For example meat products.

Charge % of subtotal – When selecting this item in the point of sale, it will take the selling price as a percentage and charge the subtotal of the sale.

Maximum discount % – Enter the maximum allowed discount for this product.
